guess who can't keep new year resolutions?

THIS GUY! It's true...and sad. I'm ashamed to have written to all of you (yes, you seven people) and assured--nay--PROMISED all of you that this blog would produce constant updates, and sadly, it has failed to do so. My colleague was generous enough to provide you with a Golden Globes post, but aside from a half-assed (true) write-up of How I Met Your Mother's FATHER DEATH episode--it was that shocking--I have given you nothing. NOTHING. Why? I have no excuse. Lack of motivation? Sure. I'll go ahead and confess that. If it makes any of you feel better, I've failed to fulfill my resolution to exercise more. Yes? It certainly makes ME feel better!

Truthfully, I have been watching TV, and a lot of it. So what we have here is a blog that proclaims to watch a lot of television (true) but fails to actually post about it (quite true). Mee, the other half of this blog, once told me to only blog when I want to. And that's what I shall do. Let's be honest with eachother. I'm sure the seven of you who follow this blog aren't checking it constantly--I have a few blogs I "follow" too, and I haven't looked at them in months; maybe even years. You probably haven't looked at this blog in a while. That's OK. I won't hold it against you.

So here's what we're going to do. We Watch More TV Than You is going to blog whenever it feels inspired to do so (an amazing episode, a juicy piece of TV news, Glee disappoints, etc.). And we'll let all of our faithful followers know if there's anything new to check out. OK? OK. See, I'm posting this as a way of reminding myself to actually do this. It's all very exciting. Let's go!

who will win: golden globes 2011 edition

I know what you're thinking: will I ever tire of award shows? Considering the number of award shows I've watched in my life already, the answer is: probably, someday...but it's not going to be this year.

As you may know, the Golden Globes are coming up on Sunday. Once again, they'll be hosted by Ricky Gervais, who will hopefully say many, many uncouth things and keep the home audience from falling asleep sometime in the second hour. The nominees and extraneous celebrities in the audience will be plied with alcohol so there is a higher chance of someone getting toasted and saying or doing something unexpectedly hilarious/appalling, which makes the Golden Globes by default the best awards show.

So just for funzies, here are my predicted winners. Note that I have absolutely no credentials to even be making critical predictions, aside from the fact that I watch a bit of TV. Also note that I cannot claim to have seen all the nominated actors/series/miniseries, so half the time I'm pulling this out of my bum. I can't decide if this is going to be a who-I-think-will-win list or a who-I-want-to-win list, so let's just say it's a little of both.

Since it's not relevant to this blog, I will refrain from going through the film categories. Also, I don't think I can muster the requisite brain power right now to actually debate whether Burlesque or The Tourist should win Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. Yes, the film categories are even more wacked out than the TV ones.

As much as I looooooooove Band of Brothers, I just couldn't get into The Pacific at all. I gave up after three episodes, although I do mean to go back and give it another shot later. Even though WWII+Spielberg+Hanks=high probability of winning, I think Temple Grandin (I haven't seen it) won a ton of Emmys so it's a safe choice.

I'm surprisingly uninterested in this category. Yes, Alec Baldwin is the best thing about 30 Rock but he's won so many times. I'm not quite sure Steve Carell had such a great year. I've never seen Hung. I'm sure Matthew Morrison must have a legion of fans, but does he even do anything on Glee anymore? Also he's not funny. I do think Jim Parsons is the funniest person on The Big Bang Theory but he should have won like two years ago. Ummm, let's go with the Emmy trend.

This is an odd category. The Scott Caan thing is a little strange, but I have to say, I watched five minutes (literally) of Hawaii Five-0 once, and he was very charismatic during those five minutes! The supporting role nominations always stinks a bit because they lump comedies, dramas, and miniseries all together, so tons of people get left out. I'm going to go with Cam, although if I had my way I'd give it to Phil Dunphy in a heartbeat.

Randomly, I really enjoyed Romola Garai's Emma (she was a lot better in that than in, well, pretty much every other thing I've ever seen her in), but it's kind of light. And you can never count out a Dame. Which reminds me that I really need to move up Cranford on my Netflix queue. All that considered, and the fact that I don't have a clue what The Pillars of the Earth is, it seems Claire Danes will win. And she already won the Emmy. Although not a tiny part of me would love to see JLH win, just because I think that would be really entertaining to watch.

lets start 2011 on a high note!

This past Monday night marked the return of our favorite show with a laugh-track, How I Met Your Mother. And boy, what a return it made! So what's new? LOTS OF STUFF! Robin started her new research job at World Wide News and it's not going as well as she'd like. Turns out, the anchor she works for was once a co-anchor of hers. He was also a real sleazy sleaze, which didn't help her case. The minute he recognized her he made sure to do his part in humiliating Robin in front of her new co-workers. Robin Sparkles. News anchor in Japan. And more Robin Sparkles. Despite all this, the episode ended in Robin's favor. Taking Ted's advice, she played along with her jerk of an anchor and laughed at herself, causing her co-workers to laugh with her., As a viewer, I'm looking forward to seeing where Robin's new research gig takes her.

While we got a glimpse into Robin's new career move at WWN, this episode was all about Lily and Marshall. Bold statement? Perhaps. But Ted did little more than read architecture book, and Barney spent most of the episode pushing Marshall to go laser-tagging (yeah, I made it a verb, shut up) with him. Barney's counter-part, Neil Patrick Harris took on a bit more, but I'll go into that later. Lily and Marshall. Sigh, I may be alone in saying this, but I think they are my favorite couple in primetime comedy. They genuinely love eachother and aren't afraid of showing it (spontaneous high-five for having sex a record amount of times). We all know that this lovely pair has been trying for a baby and despite all the sex, it seems the two of them have had no luck. And as most couples do, they decided to get themselves checked out--AND BY BARNEY! Fine, that's not completely true. Lily's doctor was the last of the gang's doppelgangers. Her doctor was Barney's doppelganger. And it was actually a doppelganger and not Barney. Lily wasn't even convinced until Barney himself was in the exam room with his ears and eyes covered. And as far as the results of Lily's visit, well, in the end this episode provide us viewers with healthy doses of good and bad news.

Good news: Lily's fine, a perfect baby-making machine!
Bad news: Marshall immediately thinks he's the problem and ignores his dad's calls.
Good news: Marshall's parents show up for a surprise visit.
Bad news: At the very same time, Marshall needs to get it on in a cup so his sperm can be tested.
Good news: Even if Marshall is the "problem," his parents assure he and Lily that there are other options and they'd be happy no matter what.
Bad news: Barney's been the doctor the entire time!
Good news: Hahah, just kidding! The real doctor throws Barney out and assures Marshall is sperm is heavy-duty baby makers!
Bad news: Marshall tries calling his dad to let him know about his amazing sperm but no one's picking up.
Bad news: Marshall's father had a heart attack AND DIED.

Yeah. Marshall's dad is dead. I and my emotions were definitely not ready for that. I don't think anyone--save for the team of writers--was ready for that.

What a way to start the new year, huh? HIMYM throws some pretty crazy stuff at you but that one came out of no where. Post-mortem (I know, too soon, but I had to) you begin to put the pieces together: the pattern of phone calls, the countdown, and you realize that while it came out of nowhere, it was to be expected...if that makes any sense.

Next week, I'll have a box of tissues with me, just to be safe.

new year, new blog

2011. A brand-spankin' new year. And where have we been? I know, we've been away. We've been far away. We've been off the map. Is it agreeable for me to say that we've been on a sabbatical? I'll just say that. We Watch More TV Than You has been on a sabbatical, and is now back and ready for action. More specifically, we're ready for new television. That's right. With a new year comes new television episodes and even some new shows! And as with any new year, a resolution must be made. I, for one, have plenty: Eat healthier! Exercise more! Spend less! I could go into more detail, but I wouldn't dare start 2011 with low self-esteem.

But speaking of resolutions, I've got another one for you. This year, I resolve to spend more time on this blog and keep it current! Yes sir! It's a year of change, and here at We Watch More TV Than You, we're going to make sure to be constantly giving all of you--all seven of you--new posts on a regular basis, and more posts at that! We basically are going to have way more to offer you, but you'll have to stop by for a visit to find out more! Do I sound like a used-car salesman yet? GOOD!
